[ENG] In 2005 the bass-player “Kira”, strongly influenced by the Visual Kei scene and by Japanese Jrock, draw up a project which has the fusion of Oriental melody and Occidental Groove as target, the band’s purpose is to find the right dimension between these two worlds, and will be called “DNR”. Immediately Ash and Sieg (ex members of other Hard Rock made in USA bands) enter the project: the base of DNR’ sound was ready, but it will take 2 years of exhausting casting session to recruit a singer to expectations of the trio. In summer 2007, they will find in Mantis the right romantic and aggressive tone that represents the band. Now, instead of hiring another guitarist, as standard rock bands usually do, DNR opt for a 5th element with knowledge of Jazz Piano, with the intention to bring style and niceness to the sound and support to Sieg’s guitar Riffs; with the arrival of DeLord on november 2007 the formation was completed. DNR are: Kira, Ash, Sieg, Mantis and DeLord, the first italian Visual Band.

INTERVISTA SUICIDEROCK.com - FEB 2009

"We don't plan our songs, we write down the feelings"

Suiciderock: So for everybody who does not know about DNR, could you be that nice and tell us the main facts about you as a band?
Mantis: The band is a Visual band! It’s difficult to say exactly what we mean with “Visual”... We try to play music, make shows, share feelings, for all of your 5 senses... ears are not the only target! Sound, Make-up, fashion, light game, gift, rose, chocolate... We want you to feel our music deeply, it`s not about hearing only.

Suiciderock: How would you describe the characters of the band members?
Mantis: Kira - he’s the best friend we could get. Always there if anyone of us has a problem. Sieg - he’s the most quite and mature of us. The one who you can call “good guy”! DeLord - he’s... ehhmmmm. He’s DeLord. The romantic side of DNR?!? Ok I play the Joker card... next one! Ash - he’s accurate, always on time, organized and my best trip partner! Glam side! Me - actually the opposite of Ash... always late, forgetful, approximate. I guess I’m the rock dumbass side of DNR!!

Suiciderock: In your Bio it says that you were planning to „draw up a project which has the fusion of Oriental melody and Occidental Groove as target” and that the band’s purpose is to find the right dimension between these two worlds. Do you think you managed to reach that target already?
Mantis: Not yet, but a lot of big J-bands gave us a good feedback. We need more time to reach that target, study and choose the right sound. It’s like a music balance...

Suiciderock: The band was found in 2005 already but it took you 2 years of exhausting casting session to recruit a singer for DNR. What do you think made it that difficult to find the right person for the vocals?
Mantis: Well, you have to search for the best!! ...and also I live in the suburbs!

Suiciderock: Music industry easily tends to put bands into a certain corner. You are strongly influenced by the Visual Kei scene and by Japanese J-rock. But can you name us some of your own personal idols?
MantiS: As a band we like X-Japan, Alice9, Dir en Grey, L’Arc en Ciel, Dio Distraught Overlord, Mana for the J-Rock scene but we all have very different influences in music. Personally i love also the Finnish scene.

Suiciderock: You are Italian first Visual Band. How did the music scene react about you?
MantiS: Well, at the first moment the most thought we would just copy the J-Rock style and sound. Now it’s quite clear we are more than a copy. We can’t sing in Japanese, we can’t wear the same clothes (I’m 1,90mt x 87kg, not exactly the typical Japanese body) and the most important we have not sufficient culture in Japanese Kabuki Theater. We try to do our best to reach out a good fifty-fifty and we’re sure to keep our good feedback from Japan! Of course we can have good chances in Europe (Eastern countries, Germany, Uk, France, Spain...) but i think not in Italy. To be honest: The Italian rock scene sucks... Thank you Germany!

Suiciderock: As far as I know you have lot`s of Fanclubs and Streeteams all over the world already without being there once. You have a fanclub in Japan and some streeteams from Czech Republic, Hungary, France just to name a few. How does it feel that so many people are into the band without having seen a single show?
MantiS: Honored... it means we’re doing good, means that we’re giving emotions even if not within “walking” distance as we’re on a stage. It’s also a big responsibility, we can’t be less on tour. We won’t be.

Suiciderock: While talking about shows… What can people out there expect from your life shows?
MantiS: You can expect more than music, more than 5 musicians... more than songs.

Suiciderock: You are all wearing lots of make up and everything around you seems to be very styled. How important is that image for you? Could it be even more important than the music itself?
MantiS: Nothing is more important than the sound in music, we want to transfer feelings to the people who come to our shows and who listen to our music and the image helps.

Suiciderock: What`s the thing with your artist names? Could you explain why you decided to use them? Do they mean something special?
Mantis Le Sin: My name means a lot of things, the only one i can say is PsychoMantis, a character from Metal Gear Solid. "Ashley Delgado" from the great movie: The Army of Darkness where Bruce Campbell interpreted Ashley J. Williams!!! “Give me some sugar, baby”... "Kira" is a name from the mythological Kyra. "DeLord" a name for his romantic style. "Sieg" another videogame character!

Suiciderock: The J-rock Scene seems to become very popular all over the world at the moment. What do you think are the reasons for that?
MantiS: It’s a different musicstyle comparing to all the others around, it`s original, sexy, interesting and full of culture.

Suiciderock: Let`s talk about the roles within the band. Who is responsible for the songwriting?
MantiS: We make the songwriting all together. Someone get the idea, the band works around this idea and then try, try, and try again until the song becomes ready to enter in the Miraloop’s studios.

Suiciderock: What are your songs about and what inspires you for the lyrics?
MantiS: Our songs talk about hopes, love, sickness, time flowing, motorbikes..depending on the mood in which they were written, the season and so on... We don’t plan the songs, we write down the feelings.

Suiciderock: Do you have any specials plans for a own record yet?
MantiS: Yes, we are working for the debut album 8\9 tracks. I hope it will be ready in May.

Suiciderock: People have the chance to listen to some of your songs on your Myspace Profile. How are the reactions? Did you get any feedback?
MantiS: Oh God, people have the chance to BUY our single on iTunes... I really hope they are not just listening from Myspace everytime!! PLEASE TAKE US ON YOUR IPOD!!!!! ...Or even better, come to see our shows

Suiciderock: Your band name DNR means “Do Not Reanimate”. That`s kind of a special one. Who had the idea for it and is there a special story behind the whole thing?
MantiS: We live in the side of this world where we can be what we are. Our politic is made by feelings, lyrics, melodies, truth and in our church the holy cross that you can see is the one made on the calendar that eliminate the days before the shows. So, “Do not reanimate” us from this sweet torpor..

Suiciderock: Your future plans for the band?
MantiS: “Yeah, the debut album with Miraloop and the European tour. Since a couple of months we’re working with our new manager, Harris Ghouse, there are great plans this year!”

Suiciderock: Famous last words?

Interview with DNR

We proudly present our
email-interview with the first Italian Visual band DNR. For those who don’t know them: please continue reading and convince yourself that Visual bands don’t always belong to Japan.
For those who do know them: you are also allowed to continue reading ;-)
.. ..

RP: Hey guys, at first we would like to thank you for taking the time to answer our questions! It’s a pleasure for us interview such an auspicious and interesting band. And we are also looking forward to present this to our readers…so here are our questions:

It would be a nice opening
for our interview if you could introduce your band to our readers! For example: how long does your band exist, where and how did you meet each other?

Mantis: The band exists since 2005 but I joined the lineup in 2007, I saw an advisement on internet and then I contacted Ash. Only two days later I realized that I already knew him. The first meeting was in a decadent, abusive studio. Was cool!

RP: Afterwards please describe yourself or each other, it would be best to do it with 3 attributes, which are representing the personality...

Kira: polite, honest, true J-lover!
Sieg: quite, mature, the good guy!
Delord: I pass!! Joker card for me... next one?!?
Ash: accurate, organized, always on time.....
Me: always late, forgetful, approssimative!

RP: Why have you chosen this name for your band? What has convinced you that this is the right choice?

Mantis: As I like to say, we live in the side of this world where we can be what we are. Our politic is made by feelings, lyrics, melodies, truth and in our church the only cross that you can see is the one made on the calendar that eliminate the days before the shows. So, “Do not reanimate” us from this sweet torpor... right choice or not, we feel this name and his meaning part of us.....

RP: The influence of Visual Kei and J-rock is unmistakeable, but what is exactly representing YOUR band? What is the thing that makes you stick out of all the other bands?

Mantis: Well, what we do in music is like a cocktail. Take 5 different musicians with opposite style, mix glam, J-rock, Visual kei, Love metal, Goth, electro, jazz and fashion, in the right way with a good balance. Than go on stage to do more than play: throw roses, chocolate, play with lights and people. We wanna share feelings, for all of your 5 senses...
We want you to feel our music deeply, it..s not
about hearing only...

RP: Which bands or musicians did inspire you?

Mantis: Different styles, for example: X Japan, Motley Crue, HIM, Metallica, Alice Nine, Phantasmagoria, NIN, Muse, Miles David, Beatles, 30 second to mars... too many!

RP: In a previous interview you said that you are planning to release your album in May 2009. Will it be available in Germany as well? Do you have concrete plans to conquer the German music market, maybe also with some live gigs?

Mantis: Hell Yeah!! We promise you to be in .Germany very soon! Our manager, Harris Ghouse is German and our label will release the album all over Europe. No way to miss your country!!

RP: What is the most positive and negative thing you associate with music business?

Mantis: Well, as you can image we follow our dreams, play music is what we wanna do, meet people, see places, live together, be artist... but there is no time for family, relationship and old friends. Sometime
is hard, but we chose the right way. Music can’t cheat you, music can’t hurt you and music never forgets about you. That’s because the music is the only love of my life.....

RP: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Mantis: ‘cause our drummer... I guess in jail but I hope on stage...!!!....

RP: How would you convince someone who doesn’t know your music with 3 words?

Mantis: “CLATUUU’ VERATAAAA NIKTOOO!!” ... and something will happen, I swear!!

RP: We assume that you really love to stand on stage ;-) - but what is the most embarrassing or funniest incident that happened during your gigs?

Mantis: uuhhmmm...No doubt...We were in Milan I went out of our dress room to the stage before the show to see how many people were there but... I was almost naked, shaving my face... and there was the opening band performing....yet!

RP: Do you have any other jobs besides music?

Mantis: No time for anything else than Music...

RP: What would you save first if your house / your apartment is burning?

Mantis: Bu (my snake), Jimmy (my spider) and family photos.....

RP: Who were the heroes of your childhood?

Mantis: Mc Gyver, Michael Knight and the A-TEAM!!

RP: What would you do if someone donates you 10 million EUR, but you have only 1 week to spend all the money?

Mantis: 9 million for the cancer research and 1 million to take Jessica Alba on holyday with the band!

RP: Do you have any special “New Year’s resolutions” or wishes for 2009?

Mantis: Arrive in flash and blood to 2010!

RP: You have the final say…if you want to address some greetings to our readers:

Mantis: Thank you Rock Pleasure for the nice questions, thanks to your readers to become ‘till the last answer and we promise to see
you soon in Germany.
Remember: “De visu melius
quam de auditu gaudere.“ Live your time, in your style.....

Thank you again for answering our questions..
We wish you all the best for the year 2009, may all your plans will be successful…and we hope to see you soon in Germany!

best regards,
the Rock Pleasure-Team

INTERVISTA @ DNR:Melodiche sinfonie.....

S: Sunset Strip, Flesh n Blood
M: cantavo nei SIN, tributo ufficiale italiano HIM
A: ovvio... Reaction, Smoke, Smile, Flesh & Blood e almeno altriiii...
4!!!
D: Exus, FumoPassivo, Alive, Sinestesia, Ex ( progetto indi- italiano )

Come li avete scelti?

In
greco significa profeta.

;-) ...quindiii
..."dammi un pò di zucchero, baby!!!" :)

DeLord : letteralmente significa "Il signore".
Quindi convivono in me due parti
ben contraddistinte.

avere Jessica Alba!!

Ash: Alcatraz!

GazettE, Alice Nine, Diru, X Japan , Malice Mizer,Ancafè, L'arc en ciel, Kagrra, , Gackt,Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, poison Him, 30 Seconds to Mars, Stryper,12012, Janne da ARC ,Pierrot,Phantasmagoria,ecc...la lista è infinita!

10) Dopo "Visual Evolution" cosa state preparando per i vostri fans?
